The US supermajor has also donated a 53-acre parcel of land to the Houston Food Bank

Chevron is selling its Chevron Park campus in San Ramon, California, and encouraging many of its West Coast employees to relocate to Houston.

The company will move to “new modern leased space” in San Ramon, where it will remain headquartered.

The US supermajor told Upstream it expects to make the move during the third quarter of 2023.

“The current real estate market provides the opportunity to right-size our office space to meet the requirements of our headquarters-based employee population,” Chevron said.

The move comes as US oil and gas companies are moving more of their workers to Houston, often called the “Energy Capital of the World.” ExxonMobil recently moved its headquarters from Irving, Texas, to Houston.

Chevron has a strong presence in Houston and is giving back to the community through a 53-acre donation to the Houston Food Bank.

“Chevron has been a part of the Houston community for more than a century,” said Eimear Bonner, president of the Chevron Technical Center and Houston Food Bank board member.

“While we’ve seen a lot of change in those 100 years, one thing remains constant: And that is Chevron’s and the Houston Food Bank’s commitment to this city and ensuring that our fellow Houstonians have consistent access to nutritious food to fuel a healthy life.”

The Food Bank was looking to acquire land for a new food distribution centre, so Chevron donated the parcel of land valued at about $10 million. The new facility is expected to open in 2025.

Through the Covid-19 pandemic and a massive winter freeze in 2021, household food demand in Houston rose 85% from March 2020 to March 2021, Chevron said.

The new facility plans to address the larger demand and become accessible to a wider population.
