About Manuel Urenda

Manuel is a corporate and commercial attorney with over 17 years of experience in the public and private sectors. During the early stage of his career, Manuel was appointed as Assistant to the District Attorney of Santa Cruz. He later decided to shift from criminal litigation to the private sector, and worked as in house attorney oil and steel companies, and now as a private practitioner in corporate law. Manuel has acted as the Legal Representative of several international companies with a presence in Bolivia, having represented them in a wide array of matters, public tenders, EPC Contracts, administrative and commercial litigation.

  • Assistant District Attorney of Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
  • Worked in New Delhi, India to provide advice and training to the staff of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd., that would be later relocated to Bolivia in order to set up an iron ore mining and steel project.
  • As member of a Bolivian law firm, provided legal and strategic advice on corporate and administrative legal matters to local and international companies dedicated to different fields such as, oil and gas, technology and software, engineering, construction, cement, agriculture, chemicals, retail, mining, and medical equipment manufacturers.
  • Provided legal advice and coordinated a team of attorneys engaged in a cement plant project (~$200M), including the drafting and negotiation of EPC Contracts and PPA Contracts. and conducted all legal tasks in core teams engaged in new refining and marketing major projects in Asia and Middle East ($10B+ projects), including negotiating with a pool of banks and ECAs project finance for large industrial projects (refinery and petrochemical/ gas plants construction), development of joint venture companies or consortium agreements with host country and international companies, drafting & negotiation of all related documentation including EPC contracts.
  • Provided comprehensive legal advice to a Spanish JV bidding to be awarded a EPC Contract for a new cement plant in Caracollo, Oruro – Bolivia (+$244M). After the bidding was awarded, Manuel became the Legal Representative for two of the JV Members.
  • Provided comprehensive legal advice to a Spanish JV bidding to be awarded a EPC Contract for a new cement plant in Potosí, Bolivia (+$244M).
  • Provided legal advice to a Mexican mining services company with intentions to set up operations in Bolivia, from the analysis of the most efficient corporate vehicle to create a new company in Bolivia, to the recruitment of the personnel, negotiations with customers and suppliers, obtaining the administrative permits and authorizations, and day to day legal and corporate advice.
